Eclipse Glasses - Stay In Letter

Eclipse Glasses - Stay In Letter
August 17, 2017

Dear Parents,

We have received notification from the supplier of the eclipse glasses that their vendor has not provided documentation that our glasses were “sourced from a recommended manufacturer.  We recommend that you DO NOT use this product to view the sun or the eclipse.”  Therefore, we will be unable to go outside to view the eclipse as planned.

Our teachers are planning lessons and will provide live streaming of the eclipse on their TV or projector for the students to view.

We will still dismiss school at 3:30 for bus riders in town; Shiver and Whigham will adjust their times to accommodate the arrival of the high school buses.  Safety is our top priority.  If you would like to view the eclipse with your child at home, we ask that you sign elementary and middle school students out 11:30 – 12:00; high school students at the end of 2nd block, 11:23.

Students DO NOT have to be picked up early; we will provide an opportunity for them to view the eclipse safely at school.

Other safety precautions we will be taking to protect our students:
· No recess during the eclipse 1:05-3:30
· P.E. classes will remain indoors during the eclipse, 1:05-3:30
· Outdoor extra-curricular activities held until 4:06
· Students will be provided an opportunity to view the eclipse through internet/TV in classrooms
We apologize for any inconvenience that this change in plans may cause; however, it is our desire to keep our students safe and their eyesight protected.
